Sketches from Yucatan

by bluedeep - last update: Dec 25, 2002

Valladolid Bus Terminal

Waiting for a bus to go to Merida

I did not have much chance to sketch this time.... did not come back with good drawings.
Rocks and red flower at Syvil

Syvil

Sunday, we rented a car in Merida, and visited smaller ruins. All ruins were admission free on Sundays (good day to visit many ruins).

Smaller ruins were quiet and some of them were beautiful.

Rent a car was less expensive than taking tours from Merida, and could go to more and hard to get to places.
Little house in Syvil

Syvil

Little thatched roof house against rich red soil next to Mayan ruin.
I think the family lives here....

A young girl was peeling fruits for a visitor. We asked if she can make us juice. She took out 8-10 fruits.... could be oranges, could be grapefruits (??)... all not great looking (looked like they were from their yard).... peeled skin one by one, then used simple pressing machine. Took her more than 15 minutes to make the juice. It was10 pesos and was the best juice we ever had. I wish I sketcehd her....
