"Far above Cayugas waters......
Harvard 1636 Yale 1702 Princeton 1746 Columbia 1754 Penn 1755 Brown 1765 Dartmouth 1768 CORNELL 1865
These are the eight universities that comprise THE IVY-LEAGUE in America. MIT also participates in admissions but not in sports contests.
Originally laid out by Frederick Law Olmstead, designer of Manhattan's Central Park, the Cornell campus features classic and modern architecture, graceful quads, and world-class facilities for living and learning.
I spent many hours in Willard Straight Hall/student union The Cornell student union is a massive cathedral-like building overlooking Cayuga Lake and has a huge "great hall" with heraldry worthy of Arthurian acclaim.
Every student wanders through here at least once a day. The view of Cayuga Lake from the rear terrace is awesome at sunset and the food in the IVY ROOM is affordable and very good! The Statler-Hilton Hotel School insures that food is of a very high quality.
I adore it so much I bought a farm nearby. You can actually almost see it in the upper right hand of the picture...well..almost;-)
As much as I adore the Ivy League my wife Lindsey went to Oxford and Oxford makes Cornell look almost mediocre;-(

Winters are harsh, but beautifull. Cornell University is one of the most beautifull campuses in the country and likely the most gorgous place I have ever lived. The setting is spectacular and the education was phenominal...
|
The broad walk with McGraw Tower looming in the distance.
Chimes ring out on the hour from the tower located between the immense Olin and Uris libraries on the left and right. The building in the right forground is Sage Chapel where the body of Ezra Cornell et al lie in state.
I loves my Cornell;-)

I studied here hours and hours(and hours).
The joke is Industrial and Labor Relations(ILR) stands for I Love(to) Read. The workload was oppressive, inasmuch as only 20% of applicants get accepted, the competition is fierce and the grading CURVE goes both ways....it is possible to score an 85 and flunk an exam;-(
THE NEW YORK TIMES is quoted as saying, `At Cornell you can get B`s if you work like hell..and A`s if you jeopardise your health.
I spent alot of time studying in the brass catwalked study area in the picture.
I jeopardised my health LOL

Snow and bitter winter winds bluster Cornell, Cayuga Lake in the distance and the city of Ithaca inbetween 7 months a year. I cant imagine a more intellectually stimulating area with a more "quaint" small town feel.
|
Balch Hall in winter reminds me of a castle in England. Cornell IS my Camelot.
|
Sage Hall could be a stave church onion dome in Russian Kerelia or Siberia in the middle of winter.....in reality its the graduate school administration building.
|
Mostly I have winter memories. I still wonder how I got through all those winters;-)

Nice meeting you in person at the Orlando meet. Kathy in Sunny Florida | richiecdisc Thu Oct 15, 2009 14:00 UTC I didn't know about it, Michael. I'm still mostly a page builder as you can see. Most of my VT meetings have been one-on-one. Ironically, I was in Orlando yesterday but just for one night, meeting my brother and his wife for the day, down from NE. |
