Gals on the Grind Yes, the G.G. is open again after being closed because of risks of landslides. Instead of taking the usual red gondola up and down the mountain ($23), take a free hike - a really, long 2,800 ft hike on rugged terrain. The average hiker takes just over 2 hours one way, with dozens of water breaks, but there are experts out there who can run both up and down the mountain in about 70 minutes every day (insanity, I tell you, especially because the ascent can be as sharp as 45 degrees and treacherously rocky in many places!). Go on a sunny day and take plenty of water with you. Pace yourself and conserve your water. |
G.G.: The Quest For Better Time Okay, after my first time, I thought I would never ever put myself through that torture again, but I have. I've now done the G.G. a few times, and I am managing to shave off 10 minutes off each go. My personal best is 1 hour 19 minutes and I am not about to become a regular 'Summit Seeker' and buy one of those digital time trackers. After the G.G., fill up your water bottle at the Chalet and take in the view of the city from 3,700 ft above sea level. Girls: your thighs and butt will look awesome after doing the G.G. a few times! Enjoy the gondola ride down ($5) or good luck to your knees on the trek down. |
