On march 2nd, 2002 I met Chiara (pollon) for a little private meeting in Genua

And this is Ambassadore San Paolo (utttz) - In Genua they even called a famous library after him...

If you click on the picture, you know what I mean !

...but lets start at the beginning:

Chiara was waiting for me at the Station "Genua Brignole" and it was just a few steps to the prebooked hotel opposite the station.

I normally go to less sophisticated hotels, but this one was so conveniently close to the station, and my local tour-office "Pollon" booked a great room here for a really modest price, so I enjoyed a great night here and a wonderful breakfast.

The price was 70,- € for my single-room - a bit more than the 32,- € that I paid in Rome...

...but they had much better bedsprings than Hotel Il Castello in Rome

maybe you have a look at my Rome-page to understand ??

and here is again my nice tourguide and her little assistant "Boozy Bird", who took me for a great evening-stroll through the big and small streets of Genua.
.

And VT simply cut off the head of my Tourguide !!!
.

Is this their common attitude against one of their ambassadors ???

I used to come to Genua quite often, while I was working on cruiseships. But that was some time ago and then I spent most of the time in the area around the port to do some shopping in the tiny little streets of that area. And Genua has chaged a lot since my last stay.

There are so plenty of nice little churches in these small streets - this one even has curtains behind the windows. - and very close to it we had dinner in a small local restaurant called "Sa Pesta"

And I had "FARINATA" - it looks a bit like an omlette or pancake, but it is made of chickpeas (Kichererbsen in german) and tastes a bit like peanuts. It is soft and crispy and I may highly recommend it to everyone !

And then we took a final beer here in this great old bar. It seemed to be just an ordinary small local bar, but there is also a staircase down the 3-storey-cellar...

...and at each storey, you may sit on these great boxes and have a drink in a scenery like in the middle-ages.

Then Chiara drove home and we made an appointment for the next morning, 09.30 a.m. for an excursion to Sestri Levante and Lavagna.
.
For the tour to the Ligurian coast - please have a look at the next travelogue !

And for more infos about Lavagna and Sestri Levante - please have a look for the pages I made after my visit in march 2003
