THE THREE FRONTIERS So here we are overlooking and trying to decide should we go to Paraguay on the left, Brazil on the right or stay in Argentina where this picture was taken. Brazil won out. The river Iguacu (Portugese) divides the three countries. |
LET'S DANCE The night club scene was a welcome relief from the places we had frequented. As it turned out it was our 33rd anniversary that night so we had a lot of friends to help us celebrate. |
FOZ DO IGUACU Lenora at the waterfalls in Foz do Iguacu. There are a total of 175 falls at Foz Do Iguacu. |
WILD LIFE The moment you get out of the vehicle you are surrounded by the COATI'S. For the tourists they're cute but they are little beggars and wont leave you alone. |
WATERFALLS GALORE When in Foz Do Iguacu, make sure you have more film than what you think you may need, you'll need it. |
LOOK-OUT Be prepared to get wet when on this look-out. What fabulous views can be found here. |
CRUISE What a way to spend the day. A cruise to a little island just off Rio De Janeiro's coast. |
CALM WATERS It was one of these little schooners that we used to get to the island. |
CITY TOUR The city hall in downtown Rio is very picturesque |
MUSIC and MORE MUSIC THe OPERA HOUSE in Rio is said to be one of the best although not as great as the one in MANAUS. |
SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN Here we are halveway up (or down) the SUGARLOAF. The view only got better as we went. |
HALF WAY UP BAIA DE GUANABARA as seen from the middle point of Sugarloaf. A very exclusive area it seems. |
ROUND HOUSE The Catholic Cathedral is a sight to see. Totally round. Even inside all pews are in a semi-circular configuration. |
COPACABANA What more can one say, just look and dream. |
IPANEMA Lenora cooling off with a cool one (coconut milk) on the sidewalk at IPANEMA. Notice the patterns on the sidewalk. One can tell what beach you are on just by the design. It's all made with small pieces of black and white stone, on larger than two square inches. |
CORCOVADO The top of Corcovado (the Hunchback)can be reached by train or car. Once on top the magnitude of the statue of CHRIST THE REDEEMER can be felt. The mountain is 709 mtrs high, the statue is 30 mtrs high and weighs just over a 1000 tons. |
WELCOME As you fly into RIO DE JANEIRO it seems that the statue of CHRIST THE REDEEMER welcomes you to the city and of course Brazil. The lights at the foot of the statue were added not to long ago. |
THE RED CHOO-CHOO The red train is what takes most people to the top of Corcovado. |
IPANEMA BEACH We didn't have far to go to get to the beach. Since we were there in August they were almost empty, must be their winter. |
FROM THE TOP THe BAY OF BOTAFOGO is an expiring view from the top of Corcovado. |
SAND AND SUN This is the end of IPANEMA beach in front of the Arpoador hotel. |
NICE CHEEKS At one of the shows that we attended we were delighted by all the beautiful costumes, partially the lack thereof |
BEAUTIFUL WOMEN Rio De Janeiro is known for it's beautiful beaches and women. At the end of our stay we were very happy not to have been disappointed. |
I FOUND HER Here she is, the GIRL FROM IPANEMA. Once we were satisfied that this was her, it was time to pack our bags and head back home to Canada. our visit here leaves a lot of good memories. Thank you Brazil. |
TRES FRONTERRAS Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. Eventually more pictures will be added to this travelogue. |
