Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo ROCK Okay, forgive this. I have to put these photos in VT so I can thank a guest speaker from WATG who spoke to my class. But since you visited, you might as well learn who WATG are! They are one of a HANDFUL of architects that DESIGN resort Hotels and Resort Properties in General. They have 300+ employees and have offices in Honolulu, Seattle, Singapore, London and Newport Beach CA. They design MOSTLY upscale, high-end projects. They are well know for paying careful to attention to the indigenous cultures and environments. Another words, they want their designs to fit in with the host culture, not be an EYE SORE and "stick out." They will often contract local craftsmen and traditional artisians to do parts of the job to be sure they are being as authentic and true to the local people. Got to respect that. Here are some photos from the Ritz Carlton Project located in Sharm el Sheikh. WATG designed this property and I stayed there. Since a WATG architect visited my tourism development students the other day, I want to put these photos up for my WATG buddies in Honolulu to see!
This first photo is a view from the pool area to the lobby. |
| | What a pretty low-scale resort project! I can say, having walked all around the better hotels in Sharm el Sheikh, the Ritz Carlton is the Cream of the Crop there... By far the nicest and most exclusive. Probably the most expensive as well. Staff were TYPICAL R.C. employees: painfully polite! Here is a view of my room, lower level, on left, with a small lanai. |
Special Features abound! Here is a special pavillion-like structure that serves as a stairwell entrance, but it is big enough to have a small band perform in evenings. Located in the middle of the resort, most rooms have a view of it and can hear the music. | | |
| | The Nubian Players! I was so mesmorized by the band performing, that I went out and spoke with them. They allowed me to take their photo, which was quite kind of them. |
