A FINE POEM.....NEVER TO FORGET..

ANNE FRANK HUIS

Even now, after twice her lifetime of grief
and anger in the very place, whoever comes
to climb these narrow stairs, discovers how
the bookcase slides aside, then walks through
shadow into sunlit rooms, can never help

but break her secrecy again. Just listening
is a kind of guilt: the Westerkerk repeats
itself outside, as if all time worked round
towards her fear, and made each stroke
die down on guarded streets. Imagine it -

Three years of whispering and loneliness
and plotting, day by day, the Allied line
in Europe with a yellow chalk. What hope
she had for ordinary love and interest
survives her her, displayed above the bed

as pictures of her family; some actors;
fashions chosen by Princess Elizabeth.
And those who stoop to see them find
not only patience missing its reward,
but one enduring wish for chances

like my own: to leave as simply
as I do, and walk at ease
up dusty tree-lined avenues, or watch
a silent barge come clear of bridges
settling their reflections in the blue canal.

THIS IS A PHOTOGRAPH OF ANNE FRANK...

the courageous, optimistic, intelligent young girl. She was studying at the Jewish Lyceum in Amsterdam when they felt it was time to hide for the Germans.

But a coward (never caught) betrayed them all: 8 persons and only 1, Anne's father survived the concentration camps......

ANNE'S WORLD FAMOUS DIARIES...

PLEASE, enlarge this photo and you will be able to read the text easily!

SOME CARDS FROM THE MUSEUM BOOKSHOP..

This is the famous first diary which Anne got as a Birthday present just before they all had to go into hiding!

She wrote all that happened in the Achterhuis, her ideas and longings, her deepest and most private thoughts..

She wrote everything as if writing letters to her friend Kitty (who didn't exist in the real world) And......she wanted to become a writer/journalist once the war, that awful WORLD WAR II would be past tense.

But no, her dreams didn't come true......she was murdered in BergenBelsen, shortly before Liberation day
1945! How cruel life can be; only her father Otto survived....

THE FAKE BOOKCASE BEHIND WHICH WERE THE STAIRS

This is the staircase to the Achterhuis, hidden by the bookcase that is turned here to show you the flight of stairs.

ANNE'S ROOM.....

Anne's room here; the photos of film stars and the princess Elisabeth's photo are still on the wall, protected by plexi glass.

Very soon a family-friend arrived and she had to share her room with him which meant a lot of trouble, she lost so much "freedom" of the little she had!

THE SIMPLE KITCHEN UPSTAIRS FOR 8 PERSONS...

In this kitchen they had to cook for 8 persons!!Their "helpers", trusted employees provided them with whatever they good buy!

Please do read the book(s): it is available in all languages at the Museum and in bookshops and are easy to order.

He/she who would like to know IBN numbers: just email me!

Even I could do it for you, but there are quite some books, I myself have all of them. The stories Anne had written for children, several editions of her diaries and books about her and her work..........

THE BACKSIDE OF THE HOUSE.....

This is the backside of the house AS YOU CAN SEE IT NOW..... And do you see the window, the top window among the red rooftiles? And the chestnut tree?? This window is the place from where she could see how that same tree became light green, got leaves, blossomed, got chestnuts, became bare again!! with such a painful, hurting longing to just be able to walk outside, like we all do now....

THE FRONT SIDE OF THE HOUSE...

The frontside of the House, which is a museum now for more that 55 years!! It has changed, had to change because of the many, many people that visit the House and Museum, day after day, summer and winter, in droves they come......

THERE also is a SHOP .....postcards and books and leaflets in all languages....

THE WESTER TOREN ANNE COULD HEAR NIGHT AND DAY

Don't we all know what it is: to hear the church bell strike the hours, day and night, and Anne heard these bells day after week and month after year.......the bells of the Amsterdam WESTERTOREN.

THE ACHTERHUIS NEEDS SUPPORT.....

EVERY LITTLE BIT WILL HELP.....

Because of the many, many visitors the house is now very vulnerable....and is constant in need of repairs....

NEW FRIENDS-NEW SUPPORTERS

PLEASE: BECOME A FRIEND - NEW SUPPORTER....

Donate some money.....

NEW FRIENDS ARE MOST WELCOME....

NO WORDS NEEDED HERE!

ANNE FRANK'S DIARY THE BOOK I GOT AS A PRESENT

PLEASE, do have a look here via this link: MY MAY STAY 2001. I think that it will make things clear to you. Don't forget, it belongs together!

This book is the first edition of Anne's Diary which I received as a birthday present once, when I was still very young and I was immediately AN ANNE FAN

I was very impressed by the book and still am when I visit the Museum in Amsterdam, "Het Achterhuis" or "The Annexe", I feel very familiar with her and her ideas and idealism and.....I always used to write in my diaries too!

You can't visit Amsterdam and miss this MUSEUM.....

THE CHOICE IS YOURS NOW......

Here the choice is yours. You can continue with these travelogues of The Netherlands or go to my Germany page where you can see the Travelogue: MY MAY STAY 2001, were you can see the place where Anne Frank and 6000.000. others died. There are several LINKS.

PLEASE, GO TO NEXT TRAVELOGUE OR TO "MY MAY STAY" ON MY GERMANY PAGE...

OF COURSE TRAVEL RELATED...

Yes, this is travel related, this page, because Anne and her family were forced to travel to the Concentration camps, ALTHOUGH against there will!

No looking forward to that trip, very much afraid to have to leave their house....or to be betrayed while hiding in
HET ACHTERHUIS.

The very contrast with our ways of travelling around!!

ANNE'S EXPLANATIONS.....

In the next fewpictures you can see how the ACHTERHUIS was built long, long ago.

Its is a quite complicated construction of a house at the back of and connected with Mr. Frank's offices and store rooms etc..

This is interesting but I chose to place the pictures because in the pages are fragments of Anne's Diary, which are important to read.

In this picture the left part is the Firm and the right part is the ACHTERHUISwhich they also owned.

Father Frank had filled it with all kinds of stuff without someone knowing it, just because of a feeling that things could go wrong and they would have to hide there.

ENLARGED THE BROCHURE IS PERFECTLY READABLE....

WAREHOUSE AND SPICE GRINDING ROOM

You can see and read for yourself what is in the next pictures.

ENLARGED IT IS PERFECTLY READABLE.....

WE HAVE TO WHISPER AND TREAD LIGHTLY DURING THE DAY, OTHERWISE THE PEOPLE IN THE WAREHOUSE MIGHT HEAR US , writes ANNE another day....

THE FRONT OFFICE.....

ENLARGED THE BROCHURE IS PERFECTLY READABLE....

MARGOT AND I HAVE DECLARED THE FRONT OFFICE TO BE OUR BATHING GROUNDS , writes ANNE one day....

LANDING WITH MOVABLE BOOKCASE

Hi, I am enjoying reading your tour of Zeeland. I spent a very happy holiday in Domburg in 2003. I am English (from Essex) and we have lands reclaimed by Cornelius Vermuiden. Anyway, now I live in Spain and I miss Zeeland!!!
