The bandstand was the site for Sunday afternoon concerts. This present one in the park has been reconstructed with a combination of styles from the 1880’s.
The bank was originally built in Justin, Texas, just north of Fort Worth. It provided the necessary credit for farmers and held the savings of local depositors. It is pretty typical of banks build in North Central Texas around 1900.
This general store served the small community of Snow Hill, near McKinney in Texas. It was built by D.B. McCall in 1904. Today the building is the museum’s gift shop. All sorts of goodies are in this little store.
This building was from Savoy, Texas which is a small town east of Sherman. It was built in 1906 with a cast iron storefront and tin canopy which were typical features of commercial buildings at the turn of the century. Originally the home of a dry goods store, it is now a working print shop containing equipment used between 1875 and 1910 in North Central Texas.
Life is recreated in this house of a middle class Jewish family living in Dallas in the year 1901. The family here is fictional but they serve to interpret the life of traditional Jews in the early 20th century. This queen Anne style house was built by D.C. George of Plano Texas in 1900 and typical of the middle class homes found through North Texas.
The hotel was built near the railroad tracks in Carrollton in 1904. It catered to travelling salesmen as well has accommodated local boarders. The dining room was also a popular spot for townspeople. Originally the hotel had a wing at the back which held a large dining room and kitchen..
The church was built around 1895 in a small community of Pilot Grove, southeast of Sherman, Texas. It initially served a Methodist congregation and was an important part of frontier communities. The pine pews inside are original and the church can be hired out for weddings.
This house was built near Plano in Texas by James Monroe Brent. It was a gabled farmhouse and typical of architecture catalogue kit style houses which could be ordered and shipped by rail to country areas. The paint colours are original. Today is the museum’s restaurant.
This house was built only a few blocks from where it stands now in Old City Park. It occupied for 100 years by the Daniel F. and Mary Sullivan family. Because Mr. Sullivan was a plumbing and gas fitting contractor, he fitted his house out with an indoor bathroom and early gas lighting. Very unusual in its day. The house was built in 1885.
This Living farm example is comprised of a dog-trott house, detached kitchen, cellar house, blacksmith shop, feed shed, animal barn, outhouse, a small family cemetery, a herb garden, a vegetable garden and a crop field. It gives an insight as to how things were in the 1800’s. The house was built in 1845-46 in an area which is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport today.
This shop is a working forge, complete with leather hand-pump bellows. A lot of the metal items that are in use on the farm were forged here.
This cabin was built by William Brown Miller and his slaves in 1847. The house was inn South Oak Cliff and was originally a temporary shelter although it served as Millers residence for 15 years and as one of the earliest schools in Dallas County.
The name Tipi is a Sioux word applied to the tents of all the Plains tribes. "Ti" means "dwelling" and "pi" means "used for". Hunters such as the Cherokees and Kiowas Indians passed through this area and carried their Tipi’s with them. They often caped near natural springs and Old City Park area may have served as their camp site.
This house was built between 1855 and 1862 by William Brown Miller . The Greek Revival architecture was popular at that time. The columns were added in 1912 as part of a renovation. The interior is furnished with fine furniture.
Nip and Tuck are the residents here – a matched pair of Mammoth Jack Stock geldings. They came to Old City Park from a farm in Georgia and are half brothers. They give visitor rides around the village and also help with deliveries. They were getting a haircut at the time I took this photo.

Your directions were perfect. The Jesus statue has the family name of "Santos" on it. Her grave is almost under the hedges. Next to her mother.
Fantastic - wonderful pictures, I used to live there and am planning a trip in November - you give a lot to think about. Thank you.
