Meerkat

Merrekat's are native to the plains of Africa and like dry heat and desert-like conditions.

Gorillas

Isn't he cute !

Lions

Elephants

You can visit Bluebonnet - the Zoo's first baby Asian elephant. The first elephant ever born in the zoo's 90 year history.

African Rhinos

%crPathways%c*

One of the many lovely pathways throughout the zoo. The grounds are very lush and tropical looking.

Alligators

This was a wonderful viewing area to see the alligators. Real up close and personal.

Pelicans

The American White Pelican is found in north and central America.

Flamingos

Here are a mixture of American, Chilean and another type of flamingo. They were lapping up the warmth of the sun and most were having a snooze.
A really nice little habitat for these ones.

Asian Rhino

One of the Asian one-horn rhinos which seem right at home in their habitat which mirrors the wet, grasslands of Nepal.

Eating

Burrowing Owl

Live in underground burrows and are often active in broad daylight. First time I had seen owls like this.

Colobus Monkey

The black-and-white colobus is found across equatorial Africa.

Prairie Dogs

Prairie dogs are a close cousin of the ground squirrel. You can often see them sitting up on their hind legs.

Zebras

This fella almost looked wooden. Those markings are so precise.

Nubian Ibex

A species of wild goat.

Black Bears

The Black Bear once roamed throughout Texas and were also found in virtually every U.S. state. Today the black bear remains the most common bear species in the world.

Deers

This one had a bit of an itchy nose at the time.

Bongos

Bongo Antelopes live in the dense tropical rainforests and forests of Africa. They are the only forest antelopes to form herds.

Texas Town

Texas Wild

Grave Yard Texas style

Train

The Yellow Rose Express makes a round trip from the Safari Depot to Texas Wild. You can get tickets at both train depots.

Happy birthday!! Another year gone but it looks as if you do keep excellent records of how each of them went.

Now that we've moved to the Dallas area, we'll be stopping by Ft. Worth--we're anxious to see this "Cow Town". Thanks for the tips...are you still in the area?
