%c* Takayama Jinya was a local government building. In 1603 the Tokugawa family established a new government in Edo. In 1692 the Hida province came under direct control of the Tokugawa government. From that time officials were dispatched from Edo and administered the affairs of the state in this office for 177 years. The Takayama Jinya is the only remaining government building of that period. Originally there were 60 local Jinyas in the Tokugawa government. |

The Tokugawa family crest is found throughout the Jinya. |

Inside the Jinya you will see traditional paper slide doors and tatami mats on the floors. |
%c* Water for the teaceremony was boiled over a open fire. This kettle is hanging over the fireplace. Due to fire hazards there is only sand under it. |
%c* This is the place were criminal cases were investigated. Suspects had to sit on the gravel floor on their bare knees. And some were severely tortured. All the attributes in the picture are torture instruments. |
%c* Something more calming and peacefull is the garden surrounding the main building.
