The Forecourt Mosaic is based on a central dot-style painting by Michael Nelson Tjakamarra, a leading Aboriginal artist from the Papunya community of the Northern Territory. The mosaic is made up of approximately 90,000 hand-guillotined granite pieces in seven different colours and represents a Possum and Wallaby Dreaming.

When you come into the Foyer you will be amazed about the use of marble and timber that provides a link to the arrival of Europeans to Australia.

The marquetry panels in the Foyer are inlaid with designs of Australia Flora. The 20 panels were designed by Adelaide artist Tony Bishop and fabricated with Sydney craftsman Michael Retter. Some panels feature traditional Aboriginal food sources and other botanical specimens documented by Sir Joseph Banks when landed on the East Coast of Australia with Captain Cook in 1770.

The Senate is one of the two houses of the Australian Federal Parliament. It consists 76 senators, twelve from each of the six states and two from each of the mainland territories.

It shares the power to make laws with the other House of Parliament, the House of Representatives.

The Members' Hall, designed as a lofty, ceremonial space at the heart of the building, is located directly under the flag mast. It is the space in which the North-South axis of the building crosses with the East-West legislative axis that joins the Senate and House of Representatives Cambers. The static displays in the Members Hall include some of Australia's most important historical documents such as the original Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900 (UK) and one of only four surviving 1297 issues of Magna Carta.

The Great Hall Tapestry is based on a painting by Australian artist Arthur Boyd. It features a eucalyptus forest in the Shoalhaven area of New South Wales. Measuring 20 x 9 metres, it is one of the largest tapestries in the world. A team of 13 weavers from the Victorian Tapestry Workshop took just under two and a half years to complete the work.

Artworks from the Parliament House Art Collection, portraits from the Historic Memorials Collection and gifts to the Parliament can be seen throughout the public areas of the building.

No, this is not an art painting. I fact it's a view from the Queens Terrace Café to the Forecourt.

A stainless steel flag mast 81 metres tall surmounts the building from which flutters the Australian flag. The flag, measuring 12.8 x 6.4 metres, is approximately the same size as the side of a double-decker bus.
