Rotorua is the cultural centre of New Zealand and is situated in the North Island. It is about 3 hours drive south-east of Auckland. The indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maoris, have a big influence on this town. It is also the area where the most volcanic activity occurs in NZ. Although it is a big tourist attraction, it is still a pleasant place to visit. |
I got in on the act too and behaved like a tourist to have my pic taken with the performers. |
The food storage 'house' was elevated to protect the supplies. |
The Warrior approaches for the formal greeting of our group. |
The warrior places the twig offering on the ground for the leader of the visitors to accept. |
The visitor is brought up to greet the warrior and pick up the twig. Both men speak their greetings and the group may then approach the meeting house. |
The warrior retreats into the meeting house and we all follow. |
