"AFTERNOON OF PEACE AND QUIET......" France Travelogue by eden_teuling

Walking past it was difficult to resist this cozy, snug corner to rest our tired feet and to dream a bit about being here.....
In France there are so many inviting places to rest and in my opinion it is wise to do that. Although we passed this one: it was a private house, a dream.
All over France, or better all over Europe you find innumerable ancient churches/cathedrals/chapels/monasteries and who wants to see them sees the finest of fine oak doors with intricate patterns of >wrought ironwork. Interesting (for me) is to find out where most people put their hand of arm or even foot to open or to keep open that heavy oak door.
As interesting and impressive as the door are, are the bolts and keyholes, keys and knockers: real works of art. And there are plenty of them because I have already an album filled with these special photos, each trip or holiday leads me to such (a) door(s).
If you don't mind: here are some more special doors, just enjoy them!
If you do mind: don't look at them and go on with the rest of the page.
If you are one of the "I don't mind" readers, have a look in close up and then try to imagine how much time and how many footsteps it will haven taken to wear this stone on the right side so distinctively , I mean, see that hollow!
This one in close up: still worse: it must have been very draughty inside this church! See that threshold worn by millions of footsteps...
Listen and you will hear the shuffling sound of millions of footsteps, century after century, and when you if you would here them all together: that would be deafening like a thunderstorm.
Aftersiësta time it is good to stroll along the quay to have a look at all the yachts moored there, very interesting and a pleasant walk to really wake up after your rest. HONFLEUR is so georgeous a place although these last years far too busy and noisy to my taste: but t is and always will be HONFLEUR. People who come there now for the first time don't know how it was say some 5-10 years ago. It is beginning to get a bit sloppy.....what a pity.
In HONFLEUR (NORMANDY, France) you can pay a visit to MAISON SATIE, 67 Boulevard Charles V,
This MAISON SATIE is not an ordinary, traditional Museum but a museum of the 21st Century.
There are headphones for each visitor, so s/he is guided from one work of art to the next on the rhythm of one of Erik Satie's pieces of music.
This scenography is a mixture of sound, light, images and objects in a setting as fantastic and humorous as Erik Satie himself and it permits the visitor to discover Satie's universe as he liked it and with his sense of humor.
Erik Satie is a French composer, who lived from 1866 - 1925. He was born in Honfleur (france).
I would like to recommend this (not expensive) CD to you PHILIPS nr. 464.318-2 onopédies & Gnossiennes, which are early pieces for piano, played by the Dutch performer and Satie specialist REINBERT DE LEEUW.
This wonderful city is surrounded, enclosed by double rows of walls, thick and strong enough to keep the Spaniards out!
It is situated the the south of France in the Languedoc on the river AUDE.
Divided by the river AUDE into an ancient hilltop called "CITé" (where the castle, the Cathedral and the town walls are) and the "VILLE BASSE" (the low town) .
This last part, la VILLE BASSE was founded in 1247.
It is a real places for Tourists to visit so try to go very early to avoid the crowds....
Carcassonne is also famous for its WINES....but themost impressivethings isthat the CITY WALLS are still all around the city......a not to be missed SPECIALITY!
Driving the country, another day, we nestled somewhere in the middle of nowhere. You don't have to close your eyes, the warmth and the shade, the millions of minute animal movements, rustling around your body, will see to that
All of a sudden: a strange shoveling, munchy, not so minute sound: a herd of sheep with the finest,, fit for a king!!
They came and we watched them, and they disappeared again, ignoring us completely. Only had eyes for even the littlest of sprigs of grass and then there was only a cloud of dust that softly, softly settled upon us, eyes closed , enjoying our lair in the woods again.
