Pub Crawl

The Bear - Oxford's oldest pub!

<Font face="verdana" size="3" color="black">
What better place than to begin a pub crawl than in the Bear, Oxford's (supposedly) oldest pub - dates to 1242! Whatever about it's claims to being the oldest, it's certainly the smallest. It is said that two ghosts haunt this place, though how many pints are required to verify this claim i have still not decided!

King's Arms

<Font face="verdana" size="3" color="blue">
A great central location ensures the King's Arms is always busy. Given it's close proximity to the Bodleian Library, this place has often provided more temptation than i can resist and i often end up here before, during and after a night of study.

The Turf Tavern

<Font face="verdana" size="3" color="green">
Just around the corner from the King's Arms is the Turf Tavern. Quite difficult to find this one, walk down Holywell Street and turn into Bath Place.

More about the Turf

<Font face="verdana" size="3" color="red">
As well as being almost as old as the Bear, the Turf is nearly as small too! If you follow the Inspector Morse TV show you will often see the Turf featured. It has a nice outdoor area for summertime drinking.

The Eagle and Child

<Font face="verdana" size="3" color="blue">
Quite near my department so i frequent this one quite a bit. You relaly feel like you are escaping the rush and stress of student life when you enter here.

TheLamb and Flag

<Font face="verdana" size="3" color="black">
Only been in this one once, but i recall they had good Guinness so it's definitely due another visit. It's across the street from the Eagle and Child on St. Giles.

 You should visit there at night some strange goings on I can tell you, went there on Friday we all saw what looked like a glowing shapeless grey figure going along the tow path past the nunnery!

 Interesting, but most tips are very short... I'll be moving to Oxford in a month and really looking forward to it! Thanks for sharing, Golo
