Quiet Streets Montmartre has an old-world charm and character like no other place. It's easy to imagine how once this was a quarter for artists and writers. I love the quite streets, old houses all those steps. I'd really love to live in Montmartre someday, it has a great village feel to it and despite the hordes of Tourists around Place Du Tertre, Pigalle and Sacre-Couer if you venture a little beyond this you can avoid them. I can't remember exactly where i took this photo and that's also part of the charm in Montmartre - you can get lost very easily....

View of Paris From the Place du Parvis du Sacre Coeur there is a nice view of Paris.

Nice home And if you lived here you'd have the view of Paris very day!

Au Lapin Agile We stayed here in summer 2000 just before beginning an interrail trip and once again on the return. As Montmartre is in the 18th Arrondissement and located outside the centre of Paris, the hotels tend to be somewaht cheaper! Our hotel was quite close to "Au Lapin Aigle", shown in the photo. This famous nightclub used to attract quite a literary crowd back in the early 20th century. It's on the Rue St. Vincent.

The Last Vineyard This is one of my favourite spots in Paris. The Last vineyard in Paris is just across the street from Au Lapin Aigle. There is a sit-down area where you can rest after climbing the hill to get to here!

La Maison Rose Continuing up Rue Des Saules, past the Vineyard, you reach this pretty cafe. Looks like a great place to sit outside and people-watch but as the rain was falling we didn't stop.

Place du Tertre No visit to Montmartre would be complete without seeing Place du Tertre. Tertre means mound and this square - full of cafes, souvenir shops, tourists and street-artists, is the highest point in Paris.

La Mere Catherine These street-artists charge quite a pretty penny - but my advice is never accept their first offer. They will usually ask some outrageous sum like 150 francs, if you haggle you might get it down to 25. this place has been busy any time i've visited and the prices in the cafes and restaurants are a reflection of the huge influx of tourists.

La Mere Catherine Famous cafe in Place du Tertre, once frequented by Russian expats and id dates back to 1793. I think the use of the word bistro in reference to a cafe/diner type place originated here.

Sacre-Coeur One of the landmarks of Paris and visible from quite afar. The Sacre-Coeur was begun in 1875 following the Franco-Prussian war.

Steps to Sacre Coeur The Sacre-Coeur Gardens.

Your love for this city is obvious. We all have a very special we like to go back to every so often. I love the 'drunk' picture with 4 Eiffel towers in the back ground! | leecouk12324 Fri Aug 17, 2007 14:52 UTC Great to see you can keep going back to the same City and finding different things to do - i did the same with Amsterdam - but last time also got away from City - went Beach - did some Sumo wrestling.
