Rangiroa from the Air Rangiroa is the second largest atoll in the world. It measures 75 km from east to west and 25 km from north to south. The best way to describe it is a narrow circular string of islands with a huge lagoon in the middle of it. From the edge of the lagoon, it is impossible to see the opposite bank. This photograph was taken from the plane. |

Over Water Bungalows The Kia Ora Village has some beautiful over water bungalows. |
Diving in Rangiroa I did a one-tank dive near the Tiputa Pass with the Blue Dolphin Diving Center (they're based out of the Kia Ora Village Hotel). This was a great dive. We saw a sea turtle (see photographs below), two dolphins, a spotted ray, and a marlin. That's me on the left. |
Rangiroa Sunsets One of the highlights of Rangiroa was the incredible sunsets. Incredible shades of pink, purple, red, and orange. Every night, we would sit on the deck of the bar/restaurant at the Kia Ora Village hotel and watch these beautiful sunsets. |
Puddle Jumper The flight from Papeete to Rangiroa is about 1 hour. Be prepared to travel on small planes such as this one when you're flying between islands in French Polynesia. |

Exploring the Area
We rented this tiny car for a couple of hours and drove to the small village of Avatoru. We tried to visit a pearl farm but it was closed. Then we drove to the Tiputa Pass. This is where the water runs between the ocean and the lagoon. You can see dolphins jumping at the pass if you get there at the right time of day. Check out Taaora Web if you'e looking for a place to check your email. They're located next door to the Kia Ora Village hotel. They also sell black pearls there.

Next stop: Moorea
|

Our beach bungalow, viewed from the back. We spent most of our time in Rangiroa just relaxing near our bungalow, snorkeling, reading books, and enjoying the view of the water. |
