Wall Street is the business area : the stock exchange rates are advertised on line in the nearest Mc Donald's. It can be also a musical place. The professional skill of a street orchestra is always amazing. |
| | Charming street A quiet street not too far from Greenwich Village. |
Walk and see Each step is the mean to see something new : shop, building, advertisment, park, statue,... No tiredness, everything is interesting.
| | Broadway The only avenue which is not perpendicular with the streets. It crosses Manhattan avoiding Central Park, going West to finish in front of the Bronx. It was an ancient indian trail of which laying out has been kept. It is one of the way of theaters and shops |
Fire escape building NY was destroyed by fire several times because the main part of the houses are built in wood. It explains why there is so few ancient buildings. The people has kept a huge fear of fire and eventhough the fire escapes are sometimes used by burglars, they have put this kind of stairs on the frontage. Not very pretty but useful.
| | Traffic jam Traffic jams are frequent in NY. A good tourist is a pedestrian. No car, non problem of driving, no concern of parking, no fine. |
Shopping On a European point of vue, clothes and footwear are cheap in NY and there is a large range of prices in order to everybody can find what is suitable for him. The popular fashion is launched first in USA and some months later in the Old Continent. My daughter explained me that, when I ask her if we can find the trouser or the shoes she wanted in Paris. A regular visit is the only way to be in advance on the European fashion.
