Champs Elysees

by GUYON - last update: Feb 1, 2004

What a view !

Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees
If you make a walk on the Champs Elysées from Arc de Triomphe, do not stop at the Rond-Point des Champs Elysées. Continue walking towards Concorde.

This photograph is taken at the level of the Champs Elysées Gardens with in the far view the Arc de Triomphe.

Click to enlarge and you are within the photo.

An other one.

Initially, the Champs Elysées were a forest alley going the West suburbs.

Gorgeous mansions were built during the 19° Centurie.

100 years ago, the Parisian people gathered here the Sunday morning to see the departure of the horse-drawn vehicles which went to the Bois de Boulogne for the "promenade".

You can go on the top of the Arc de Triomphe but it is rather expensive : 40FF (student : 25FF - free <18).
Open : 9.30AM - 11PM (Fall & Winter : 10AM - 10.30PM)

Garden of Champs Elysees

Jardin des Champs Elysées

Champs Elysées are famous for the Triump Arch and the shops. The visitors forget the garden which is between the Concorde and the Rond-Point des Champs Elysées.

Place de la Concorde

In the middle pf the Place : the Obelisk of Louksor.

In the background, on the oppiste bank of the Seine, the Palais Bourbon, the French Congress.

On the left, the Big Wheel, two weeks before its taking down.

Now the two fountains of the Place are clean and well painted.

De Gaulle & Churchill

The 2 statues are at the "Rond Point des Champs Elysées".

De Gaulle looks at the "Rond Point" and Churchill is at the other extremity of the Avenue Franklin-Roosevelt. Like when they are alive : both close and far.

Stamp market

Stamp market

The market is located at the Rond Point des Champs Elysées.

It takes place only the Sunday from 10 AM to the sunset.

Some interessant items but few bargain : the stand keepers are professional...
