Stes Maries de la Mer

by GUYON - last update: Apr 28, 2002

Stes Maries

The bodies of the two Saints had been discovered during an excavation ordered by René d'Anjou in the early 15° century.

The relics have been put in the church. But they were partially destroyed during the Revolution.

Some remains have been saved and they do still miracles as it is proved by the ex votos which surround the statues.

The Black Virgin

Ste Sara is the patroness of the gyspsies who make yearly a pilgrimage in Stes Maries.

She has some suits and often she wears several of them.

P.S. I saw Bouzigue in 1992 and would go back in a heartbeat.Sitting on the edge of the etang with a plate of oysters and a bottle of white wine is divine.

Carol and I are still trying to settle on a region of France to visit for 7-10 days next year. The area you describe around St. Guilhen de Desert sounds like a real possibility. Thanks for the tour...Tom
