THE HISTORY OF THE CARNIVAL OF PATRAS

The carnival of Patras was born in 1829, when the first masquerade dances made their appearance. In the year of 1907 floats and carnival figures inspired by the local tradition paraded. ----
In 1966 the hunt of the "HIDDEN TREASURE " was added to the festival and in this way began the major participation of the population of Patras.
The spontaneous and creative participation of our people is what makes our carnival so unique and so lovable.
The festival begins at 17th of January and lasts till the end of February where many activities, parties and dances take place.
The last weekend, especially on Sunday the main parade of adults without floats is performed. On Sunday the main parade of people and floats, is the last event before the final ceremony.

May the power that has changed Patras Carnival up to a report point regarding the creation, the fantasy and the fun, could remain unknown but it is not the same with the people who give their soul for the "King Karnavalo" and for his escort.
