It was 6.30 am. Plenty of animals came to the main waterhole when suddenly a shot, and then another one banged. One minute later a landrover came driven through the bush and disappeared again, like most of the game. After a short while the car came back and drove off towards the basecamp. No animals were left.
What happened was, that the rangers shot a poarcher. He was seriously wounded and bleeding. People in this region donīt kill animals for business but because of starvation. And the rangers job was to stop this.
The victim was not brought to the next hospital, but layed in the shade under a huge tree. On that day the Minister of Tourism was expected to visit the reserve. So, a good way to show their success of work was to show that guy to the minister. |
