It all started with my family history... Gram & Poppop Hendrickson (next to the car on the left side) and my Great-Grandparents the Browns (at the front of the car & by the tire), along with other family members all sold their houses in Detroit, Michigan, bought 4 new Touring cars, packed their belongings and children and took off "Westward Ho". My Aunt Virginia (she was 1 yr old at the time) said they went Southwest through Colorado, through the desert to San Diego, California up the coast to Oregon and Washington. Then returned over the Oregon trail, Pikes peak and the badlands and on back to Michigan. Only took two years to do it in 1926! Need to pay for the trip?? Well, what they did was just stop, camped out, hunted, worked small jobs like picking oranges in California for example and saved enough money to move on their way to the next state. My grandparents continued on their way to New Hampshire and settled there when my Father was born. But I think the "wanderlust" had already set in. My family has moved from New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Florida, Tennessee, and to California in the 18 years I took to grow up. I continued the journey to Colorado and ended back in New Hampshire. I stopped to raise three kids there and now I'm back in Massachusetts and want to get those travelling shoes back on!!
Go to my New Hampshire Page - which is actually my "Home State" where my family grew up... |
| | Grandmother and Grandson - Dual Wedding! My parents are on the right. My Dad's Grandmother got married at the same time in a dual wedding. Pictures were even in a German newspaper and someone sent it to my Grandparents as a momento to give to my parents. |
"Eight is Enough!" While growing up in Massachusetts, my Dad was stationed at So. Weymouth Naval Air Base where he specialized in jet mechanics. Mom raised 8 kids with him ... yup, "Eight is Enough!".
I was the first born and of course, the first one to "hit the road".
I now live in Massachusetts where I have lived off & on all through my life - Brockton, Abington, Pembroke (Silver Lake High School) before finishing my school years in Anaheim, California (Savanna High School).
Brought my three kids up in New Hampshire. Remarried to the most wonderful man I've ever known. He's smart, good looking and very kind. We started out in Winthrop, Massachusetts ........ and have settled in Salem, MA.
Time to get on the road and go, go, go...
| | 6 Girls & 2 boys Our brother Allen was born 3 years after this picture was taken. I'm the oldest so you might be able to pick out which one of the girls I am ;-) Ok, far right, long hair ... the "surfer girl".
I was age 17 in this picture. A year later I graduated from high school, got married 3 months later. Well that's another story ... and many roads travelled. |
Savanna High in Anaheim, California I graduated from high school in 1967.
I went on to have 3 kids ... 2 boys, 1 girl. I spent a lot of time praying that they would grow up to be decent human beings. Did they? I thought so.
| The Hendrickson Clan in 1973 |
| | On my parents 25 Wedding Anniversary in 1973! Back row: Rhonda, Shelly, Dad & Mom, Tawny Front row: Cindy, Jamie & Allen, Arthur, Lori & our nephew, Donny.
I'm age 24 in this picture. Ah, those were the days! Glad they're over tho. I like where I'm at right now and would never want to go back in time. |
The Hendrickson 8! Taken in 1988 and the last time all eight of us Hendricksons were together at one time.

| Bill and Rhonda, Halloween 2002 |
| | Welcome from the Boston Area! With Bill and Rhonda. I'll do the best I can in telling you about the places we've been and seen. I love taking pictures ... it's the words to go with them that I seem to neglect. I'm a Grandmother of 18 now and having more fun than I ever did when I was younger. I even enjoy the travelling more... especially since I discovered VT.
Someone once said, "the adventure is not where you are, but what you make of it." and that's certainly a part of my own life experience. There is something special about every place I've been and in every person I've met and every age I've been at.
I am also so very lucky to be making my present & future travels with Bill, my best friend and partner in life. He's the best that a woman could ask for!! [If you didn't know that -- then now you do. *smile*] Thanks for stopping by for a visit!
I'm home at last! |
