Rostock Ritz In the afternoon we arrived at Rostock Ritz Lodge where you´ll get a spectacular view over the distant plain and mountains.... and more thunderstorms were brewing.. |
The stone around Rostock Ritz Lodge is slate, the outcroppings of which are quite unique - especially since brilliantly white quarz is interspersed! |
Here´s the next thunderstorm! Our hosts came running in, asking us to a) close all the windows and b) open the balcony door so that the water could run out again... Ooops! |
Storms may be bad - but they will leave a perfect sky for a perfect sunset. |
Unusual pets Our hosts at Rostock Ritz Lodge had two half-tame "Meerkatzen" ("long-tailed monkeys"? That´s what my dictionary says!), and they were roaming around freely and happily in the main building. Since the morning was a bit cool, they were looking for warmth and cuddled up right in your arms. |
Raging rivers Gaub River, not a very spectacular water, has cut quite an impressive canyon. In the dry season, you won´t find any water at all. B U T if there´s enough rain, the water will come all at once, smashing trees against the frail bridge. This picture was taken at the end of the rainy season, and Gaub River had obviously been quite busy. |
Not again! In order to get to Swakopmund, you have to cross an incredibly dry and boring desert. There aren´t even any dunes, the land is just flat and dry. The real rain hit us in Walvis Bay, and the 30 km to Swakopmund were so wet that we hardly saw the road. |
