Looks nice and tranquil, doesn't it? That's because it is. |
| | However, it's fair to suggest that when people go to this much trouble to lower a raft down a cliff face, it's not always going to be like that. |
The chinese dog leg And you'd be right! This is the Chinese Dog Leg, the last rapid on your journey. If you want a nice cruisy trip with nice scenery and an entertaining guide plus a couple of hot rapids, then this is for you. That's the Kawarau experience. If you're interested, that's me up the front on the lower side. | | | Now I'm glad I have the wetsuit |
|
| | Shotover However, if you prefer a short but dramatic chopper ride and a few more thrills then you might try the Shotover crowd. Apparently there's one up the north west of the South Island (I think in the Buller River) that's the best for adrenaline seekers. And, here I am down the back with my son in front of me. |
Shotover Jet Boat So you're in Queenstown and one of the things you've been told to do is jet boating. You won't be disappointed although my son and I marginally prefer the white water rafting. | | |
| Weird sand banks on the Shotover. |
| | The Kawarau River jet boat is a longer ride with more pretty scenery (as shown here) though the Shotover is more scary. |
