| | Oldenzaalsestraat Parts 1 & 2 start at my HASSELO-page. In 2005 the Oldenzaalsestraat road works were finished. A new sewer system and an extra buslane were constructed. New pavement ant state of the art street lights. More and more old houses are being replaced by 3 story appartment buildings. |
| The first Hengelo Traffic light |
| | The first traffic light Despite the fact there are new traffic lights installed, the first one I met always is red. There's an extra indicator LED ring around the push button for cyclist that counts down to zero.
A little further I pass the cemetery. According to my own weather-law I will make it to the office dry, if it hasn't rain up till now. |
| | More Appartment construction After crossing the Mozartlaan the road gets a little smaller and in this part of the Oldenzaalsestraat more construction is going and is planned. |
| Making room opposite the former Groothuis |
| | Groothuis After crossing the Mozartlaan the road gets a little smaller and in this part of the Oldenzaalsestraat more construction is going and is planned.
Just after the reconstruction of the Oldenzaalsestraat was complete the abandoned Discotheque Groothuis building burned down. Some silent witnesses are still visible: 3 trees disappeared and some marks are still in the new pavement.
Opposite at the South side room is made for a new housing project. |
| | Spacious This is what remained of the groothuis building: NOTHING.
The empty lot is waiting for a building pernit and yet another appartment building will get shape. |
| Hunkerbunker gone ... new appartment building |
| | The Hunkerbunker The Hunkerbunker was an appartment building put down to house the nurses of the Gerardus Marjella hospital across the street. The hospital was replaced by an appartment building and the former name can be found in front on a special stone wall in the garden.
The Hunkerbunker was broken down in 2005 and replaced by 2 triangular shape buildings. Together with the renovated and reconstructed fromer school it's a new community with its own facilities. |
| | The old pool Almost in the city center. You can see the Thiemsbug Partking house sign indicating that there still is room for your car. On the left the characteristic old bath-house can be seen. All old pool buildings are demolished. They already started with the first house and on the right in the picture you can see it's gone. |
| | Thiemsbrug area Almost in the city center. Crossing the Eikstraat and passing the Thiemsbrug parking garage and City Hall at the left. In front is the new THIRON building and still more construction in the back at Thiemsland. Goto Part 4 |
