Honeymoon to Kiribati

by AyurinHiro - last update: Aug 4, 2003

Our experience in Kiribati

On the last day in Buariki Village,a resort staff took us to the village's primary school. Little pupils were learning English. After class, they sang Kiribati songs for us! And then we sang some Japanese ones.

THANK YOU KIRIBATI, THANK YOU EVERYONE!

At last we arrived at Kiribati!

It's a long way to Kiribati from Japan....we left Osaka(Kansai Int'l airport),first we got to Guam, where we stayed 1 night. And then,we took a plane whose destination is Kiribati...BUT...via 3 countries! Anyway we got on the plane.Second place we touched down at is Pohnpei(Federated States of Micronesia),the third is Nauru Republic, and then fourth is Nadi(Fiji). At last the fifth is Kiribati. It was a long, but very joyful way, because I could see a lot of beautiful beaches from the sky. PHOTO:BONRIKI INT'L AIRPORT(TARAWA,CAPITAL of KIRIBATI)

Mauri Paradise--lovely eco resort.

Our lodging is Mauri Paradise....It is a lovely eco resort run by Japanese. The bungalows are hand made in native Kiribati style. I love them!! And the staff(Kiribati native and Japanese) are friendly and I appreciate their hospitality.

Bungalow without wall!

The bungalows have no wall!! They have only some curtain knitted with coconut leaves! So everyone can see what I am doing in my room and I can see others' life.
The next door is native family. Of course their house has no wall.So we could hear them chattering.Sometimes we heard the brothers quarreling,or being scolded.I felt really comfortable...because the village seems to be a big warm family! PHOTO:our bungalow and neighborhood.

Abaiang Island (near Tarawa)

In the daitime, we went snorkeling and diving.

Uninhabited Island Adventure

One day we went to an uninhabited island.
On the way,we dropped fishing lines into the sea,and caught some fish...they became our meal.

Hand-made bed in adventure

Catching mantis crabs

At low tide, village boys taught me how to catch mantis crabs in front of Mauri Paradise

Visiting Primary School

Live Octopus

While we were snorkeling,we met octopus hunters. They really have excellent technique to catch them.Just throw a harpoon, that's all.Anyway we bought octopus from the fisherman, then thanks to them,we could eat very fresh and delicious dish that night.

My little little beloved brother!
