Sharjah's New Suq in late afternoon Built in traditional fashion, the buildings of the New Suq are open at the ends. Wind towers on the roof catch every breath of air and feed it down inside. |
Suq Entrance and Fountain Most shoppers enter the suq on through the open entrances at the ends of the buildings. |
Inside the New Suq Each of the six buildings in the complex have two floors of shops surrounding an open central arcade. It's a great place to go for carpets, but the antique silver jewelry selection is not what it once was. |
Architectural Detail The grillwork seen here in silhouette is all made of stone, carved by Indian stonemasons imported for the task. |
