This is one of my top five ocean drives that I have done anywhere in the world. Okay, so I haven't been to many countries but still, it is spectacular as you wind along the cliff faces. |
| | On the opposite side to the imposing cliffs is the dramatic Tasman Sea, pounding here, driven by the predominantly onshore winds that prevail on this coast. |
| | Fishing One of the mainstays of the west coast economy is fishing. You may notice that the trawlers are taller than in some other countries to cope with the different weather conditions they face. |
| | Though why this one was on the slips can only be conjecture. It looked beyond repair to me. |
| | Tauranga Bay When you go to visit the seal colony near Westport you might have to step over a few of these and, no, they're not kiwis. |
| | On west coast beaches, from time to time, you will come across trees. Not your little stump but large forest giants embedded in the sand. To put it into perspective, this is just a root of one such large piece of flora. |
| | By the roadside on route 6, just on sunset, you might get lucky like I did. |
