Scenic Hawaii

Arriving back home to Hawaii!

Having had my things packed as far in advance as two years ... I was READY for home! Arriving at Hickam AFB in the early afternoon, I remember leaving the airfield letting out squeal after squeal of excitement as we passed beautiful palm trees, along with exotic bushes, trees and other plants in full bloom! What a change from the hot, dry and already brown Texas that we had just left earlier that morning.

Finding our way around O'ahu

Our next endeavor was to find a place to call home for the next few years. Having lived here for fourteen years previously did not prepare me for the shock of all the changes that awaited me in the way of H3 and Kapolei ... wow! I cannot begin to express the breathtaking view as you come out of the tunnel on H3 ... it takes my breath away every single time ... but why take my word for it ... you simply must take the drive yourself. This photograph is of the windward side as seen from the Pali Lookout. Kapolei, by the way, was built while I was away. We discovered it while we were house hunting. For those of you familiar with O'ahu, but not Kapolei, it's on the opposite side of H1 from Makakilo.

Sunsets look good from just about anywhere!

I love seeing sunsets just about anywhere ... but it's been hard capturing most of them on film because I rarely have my camera in my possesion at the right moment. Clouds, palm trees and the mountain range helped make this an unusual sunset in Kaneohe, Hawaii

Chinaman's Hat

This is a nice photo of the ever famous Chinaman's hat on the windward side of the island of O'ahu. If you look closely at the lower right hand corner of the photo, it looks like a dinosaur looking on!)

Very tropical beach scenes ...

Go figure ... we have beaches all around us! This is a wonderfully "tropical" look for Hale'iwa beach on the Northshore of O'ahu.

Big Island, Hawaii

Each island has it's own beauty and attractions. Most of the Big Islands offers a peacefulness with it's scenery, from lush green to baron brown or abandoned areas that lava flow has cleared. Here is a beautiful view from a scenic point overlooking the coastal line ... look closely so you don't miss the water fall from the middle of the cliff.
Waterfalls are all over ..

Snow in Hawaii atop Mauna Kea

Snow in Hawaii ... who would have imagined! Snow capped Mauna Kea (Big Island) in early spring 2001. This photograph was forwarded to me by my brother who lives on the Big Island (Hilo then, Pahoa now)

This type of scenery is all around you!

Here is a beautiful setting found at one of the National parks on the Big Island of Hawaii. The beauty you find is only as beautiful as you see it ... look and you will know what I mean.

Great aerial views

Viewed from above, one could hardly tell this is a photograph of a Hawaiian golf course ... why, you can't even tell if there are palm trees here or not! Trust me ... this one of many golf courses you'll find around the island of O'ahu (on Kunia)

Serenity.

Ahhh, what is the use of having a camera with you if you miss out on the best opportunities! We stumbled upon this peaceful reflection on our way to the south side of the Big Island.
Duplicating Paradise.

Gilligan's Island ...

What's your idea of beautiful scenery? As long as I can remember, I used to dream of living on some island as "NEAT" as Gilligan's Island! Well! Imagine my surprise when I found that it was really a small island right on the windward side of O'ahu! (Picture was obviously taken on a very hazy day)

Flower landscaping

Hawaii has been lavishly landscaped in flowers of many many varieties! When some finish their season, another several begin their new season ... we are NEVER without some sort of floral blooms!

I can't thank you enough for mentioning things like this. There aren't enough people in the world that are looking out for our beautiful creatures. :)

$35 is only for the meal if you buy it by itself, which they normally don't allow. And what would you recommend, a luau with a kissing line like Germaines? I wouldn't recommend those other luaus, because they aren't really luaus.
