Apartments The Peak

View from the Peak over Central area Hong Kong. In the foreground are apartment blocks - very expensive apartments. The view from them is sensational however at times they are enshrouded in fog for a good part of the mornings. When I first arrived in Hong Kong I was living with friends in one of these buildings and with a view not to dissimilar to this. Then...

My little shoebox

...I moved into my own little furnished apartment. This apartment was on Hong Kong Island. I was in a building where I was the only 'Gweilo' (foreigner). This tiny apartment was just under 500sqft (with amazingly 2 tiny b'rooms). The kitchen was a bench, fridge, hotplates, washing machine and hardly enough room to turn around. The bathroom was similar. What you see is my living/dining area but I loved it! It was all I needed since I wasn't home much. My Landlady was terrific and became a friend. Cost ? AUD$2,500 per month (US$2,000) for something so tiny.

This was the view (which I loved) through my living room window - between the buildings and across to Tsim Sha Tsui (kowloon). AT different times during the year when festivals were on, my little view changed.....

To images like this... during Christmas, Chinese New Year and of course the Handover when I was there.

Cheng Chau House

Apartments Shanghai St TST

I just loved these old rambling buildings with the greenery sprouting from every crack. They had such character to them. They were a stark contrast to the very modern super high apartment blocks in the newer area. Shanghai Street is very famous and very old. A lot of the residents have lived here all their lives and conducted their business here as well. This is only a couple of streets back from the well know Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Nathan Road TST

This is a common sight and usually you have to watch out for the drips from the airconditioning units overhead.

Roof Top Garden TST

I was visiting a friend in her hotel room and looked out the window at this roof top garden in Cameron Street, Tsim Sha Tsui.
