YOUSUF KARSH 1908-2002 Master Potraitist of th Sadly Karsh passed away July 13, 2002 at age 93 in Boston after a prodigious career working with names out of the world's who's who; names that everybody is familiar with, potraits of those who have left their mark in history or are still making history Colour Photo source: http://www.judithfarber.com/seni ors/pages/yousuf.htm
"Within every man and woman a secret is hidden, and as a photographer it is my task to reveal it if I can," he wrote in Karsh Portfolio in 1967.
"The revelation, if it comes at all, will come in a small fraction of a second with an unconscious gesture, a gleam of the eye, a brief lifting of the mask that all humans wear to conceal their innermost selves from the world. In that fleeting interval of opportunity the photographer must act or lose his prize."
In a very moving and insightful tribute - "Life and Times of Yousuf Karsh" on CBC TV yesterday he was quoted saying " my best potrait will be the one I am to do...."
we in Ottawa have been fortunate to be able to within steps apart, visit the Chateau Laurier where Karsh worked and see some of the Potraits, also at the National Gallery to see more.
Signed Potriats being advertised "Size: 16 x 20 in.$7,000 Prices subject to change without notice." must now be ..??????...?????
http://www.westongallery.com/artists/y_karsh/yousuf_karsh.html has examples of his notable potraits as does

MALK KARSH (1915 - 2001) Malak Karsh, brother of Yousuf , made an indelible contribution to Ottawa and Canada as a photographer and as the originator of the Canadian Tulip Festival 50 years ago. == whilst Yosuuf was the potrait master, Malk captured numerous Canadian, especially Ottawa scene, waiting for that moment, when lights and clouds were in place. ===His idea has grown into the largest tulip festival in the world and one of Canada’s oldest and most successful community celebrations. |

icunme Thu Jul 23, 2009 08:41 UTC Hi Ken - Lovely tour of Ottawa w/you - your photo of fall is really great! | Nemorino Wed May 6, 2009 21:03 UTC Good that Ottawa has so many biking routes, and a place to hire a bicycle near the Chateau Laurier Hotel. Also I think I would like the Canadian Canoe Museum, since I used to do a lot of canoeing when I was younger. | Roadquill Fri May 1, 2009 21:37 UTC Hi Ken, thanks for stopping by my Pamplona page.
