Naxos Island …around the island of Naxos! Leaving Hora, after about 6km, cutting across the island mountainous area of the island, we arrive in the village Galanado. On the northwestern side of the village are the Venetian Bellonia Tower and the “twin” church of St John, a place of worship for both the Orthodox and Catholic religions. After another 10km, at about 16km from Hora we arrive at Halki. Here we stop for a stroll to admire the village with its beautiful old mansions, Byzantine churches and an old tardiotional citron distillery. From here following a winding mountain road op to the height of 600 metres we arrive in the village of Apiranthos. This village is known as the “marble village” and boasts three museums: archaeological, geological, and folk art museum. Carrying on again, we stop to visit the church of Paragia Drosiani (6th century), near the village of Moni, one of the best-preserved monuments of the ancient Christian era. The next village we come to is Filoti, built in amphiteatrical style at the foot of mount Zas. After Filoti, we arrive at Koronos with its emery mines, and then, at an altitude of 700 metres, we pass Komiaki(Koronida). From here the road goes downhill towards Apollon, an idyllic, seaside settlement on the northeastern side of the island with its gigantic statue (10,5 metres) from the 7th century BC. Our return to Hora goes along the brand new coast road and passes the northwestern beaches of the island, and also tha Agia and the Monastery of Faneromeni(17th century). |
CLUBS Cream club A club that is always on top with very good foreign and Greek music and a decor that grabs your interest. Cream’s DJ’s keep you on the move without a moments rest!!! Dancing, drinking shots and a bit of idle chit-chat with new and old faces. Don’t be surprised when by the time you decide to leave the sun’s already on it’s way up. |
Ocean club A well known trendy club, an old favourite with a completely new look. Simple, hi-tech which now gives you more space to breath easier on crowded summer nights. More room to move around and dance with their DJ keeping the rhythm going. A large bar in the centre serving you. A nice assortment of people in the mood to let themselves go with alcohol flowing and good dance music with just a taste of Greek so we don’t forget our roots. |
