A Golfer's Paradise The Greater wellington area which incorperates the cities of Welllington, Lower Hutt, Petone, Upper Hutt , Porirua, Paraparaumu , and Waikanae,Otaki and Levin Contains some 22 Golf Course's so there is plenty of room for all who may wish to play golf in the city. All of these are reachable by Car or Public transport and within an hour or so's Drive from the centre of the city. Varying in lenght and standard there is a solid test of Golf for all possible players who may wish to play here. Fee's also vary from as little as NZ$10.00 to around $60.00 per person per 18 holes. Most of the larger 18 hole courses offer motorised carts , but in the main New Zealanders walk the course either carrying their bags or towing a trundler with their equipment on. Golf in New Zealand is a game for all walks of life both young and old , so with some 400 to 500 courses available many many New Zealanders play. In addition to the many course there are a number of driving ranges available to use to hone your skills. |
Map of Golf course's in the Wellington Region The map attempts to show the proximity of Golf Courses in the Wellington Region, not shown are the Waikanae , Otaki and Levin Courses which lie to the north of the Paraparaumu Course, As you can see all accessable from the Main Highway and Major Public Transport routes, Most clubs have clubs carts and trundlers for hire. |
My Home Course The Titahi Golf Course is my Home course , situated in the beachside suburb of Titahi Bay North west of the City of Porirua and established in the Whitirea Regional Park, some 40 years ago, a course prone to wind unfortunatly which makes it interesting to play, to say the least , not long , but you need to place your ball carefully too avoid the worst of the longer grass that is inexcessable by the mowers, the home of Michael Campbell, world ranked professional golfer and Lynette Brooky playing proffesionally on the European and austrailasian tours. Slope rating for the men 106 , for the women 109 with a Par of 68 and 70 respectively , The views from the course alone are worth the $15.00 green fee's as they take in the Cook Strait to the South Island and up the main trunk line through Paremata and Plimmerton to the North, and to the South Porirua and the Motorway to Wellington |
Favourite Golf Course Manor Park Golf Club , one of the tidiest and accessable courses in the Wellington region, Home of the National Titleist Academy under the control of National Coach Mel Tongue. The course is long and with several tricky out of bounds and a creek that allways seems to get in the way. Being a riverside course it has plenty of water so the fairways, rough and other playing area's are allways lush. Carts are available fee's for weekend playing $40.00 , but it definitly pays to book before hand. The photo shows part of the back nine and the views from there , which for the movie buffs the castle used in scenes from "the Lord of the rings " recently shot here in the Wellington Region |
Favourite tough golf course Te Marua Golf Course , on the way to the Rimutuka Hill road, the gate way to the Wiarappa. The Course encircled but the upper reaches of the Hutt river, has it share of interesting holes, not the least Number 1. (pictured) around 150 meters from tee to Fairway, always daunting for the first time and a great scene of excitment if there is a group from a visiting golf course , playing there. |
Its Not all bad news. (smiles) Te Marua the back nine , is a lot flatter than the first tee , but like the front nine the holes have there interesting nature , a great course , well worth the drive there , carts vailable pro-shop and catered club rooms , not an expensive day out . |
A Gem of a Public course Hutt Park golf course and driving range at the opposite end of the Hutt valley system to Te Marua is a little 9 hole course surrounding a driving range and Pro shop. Be warned you may have to wait a while to get on the tee. Four Par fours and some short par three's make up the course , the greens and fairways are good tree's and water make for interesting additional hazards as does the out-of-bound fence line. worth a vist $10.00 over 9 holes , hire clubs are available. |
