"DRAA & DADES VALLEY" Morocco Travelogue by cadzand

on the Tizi-n-Tinififft pass
The ksar Aït Ben Haddou, one of the most famous sites.
The films "Laurence of Arabia" and "The diamont from the Nile" have been made here.
Once you reach Boumalne, the valley becomes narrower, there is less and less vegetation, and you are in the Dades gorges. A few miles from Tinerhir the trip ends into the Todra gorges.
At Mhamid at about 60 km south of Zagora, we spent the night in the desert. We arrived at sunset and this is the nice surprise we discovered at sunrise
from our "under the stars" hotel
with a **** cuisine. An exciting and unforgettable experience
A sweet little girl in the middle of the desert.
If you are at El Kelaà M'Gouna on the first WE of May,
you can't miss the Rose festival. Dozens of children make delicious smelling fresh rose necklaces and the whole WE there is a great rose happening.
And then you go to Boumalne Dades. Here a view from the market place, with his weekly dromedary market.
Hard manual labour in the fields.
Dades Valley is the land of a thousand kasbas. and some of the most surprising landscapes Morocco has to offer.
Nestled in between the djbel Sarho and the High Atlas Mountains, the Dades finds its way through a dry, desert-like countryside and provides moisture for a series of oases.
All along the way, built up against ochre and red coloured cliff sides, the kasbas
We weren't there in early spring, but the landscape must look like this, with the snowy High Atlas mountains on the background.(postcard).

Happy birthday, although I see that it is just about over. Morocco has been rising on my list of places to go over the past year or so and you just pushed it even higher. Thanks!!
Morocco was also a dream for me. I'm just back but hope to go there again as soon as possible. Nice meeting you yesterday ;-)
