First of all, have a look at the city from the top of the hill and the Merinides tombs. From there you have a nice view on hundreds of minarets and mosquees.
Then go downtown to the medina and feel the atmosphere of the narrow streets and the souks. Don't miss the medersa Bou Inania, the great Karouine mosquee.
At a couple of hundred meters from there, you can visit the jewish cimetary, as there is an important jewish community living in Fez
For the tourist, the souks are the place to go to dive right into Moroccan culture and to see what live there is really all about. Naturally, tourists can be spotted a 100 yards away by the keen eyed street merchants just waiting for your money... So you will get hassled, nicely, but hassled anyway. Take the time to look at negotiate. It's all part of the game.
You'll find anything and everything in these huge bazaars... Rugs, souvenirs, ornaments, food, guides, spicies, babouches, traditional art, etc...
Souks are all the charm and hospitality that Morocco has to offer brought together in a single place.
It's also the place where you can still see and learn about different crafts, as here the wool-dyer.
and the leather-tanners. A very hard job. Once a week they change colours. For tourists who don't like the smell, fresh mint leaves are always available
At the weaver's you'll find nice silk scarfs, cotton table-cloths, djellabas, etc.
Of course, you don't leave this place without a look on the earthenware.
<Once left the medina, go and by some delicious almonds nearby the royal palace.

What a beautiful & sweet Intro page photo. The colors are wonderful. The little boy looks so fragile as he sits waiting.

Happy birthday, although I see that it is just about over. Morocco has been rising on my list of places to go over the past year or so and you just pushed it even higher. Thanks!!
Morocco was also a dream for me. I'm just back but hope to go there again as soon as possible. Nice meeting you yesterday ;-)
Ben nog eens komen kijken. Marokko zit nl. weer in de planning (april 2004). Welk seizoen zijn jullie ook alweer geweest?
