The roman ruins of Volubilis, stretched out over 40 hect., are the most well preserved ruins in Morocco. Watch the storks. If you go to Meknès, Volubilis is a great idea for a day trip. It is 17 miles from Meknès and 3 miles from Moulay Idriss. You can take a bus or taxi from the busstation at Meknès. Open every day. Entrance fee 20 MAD

The Victory Arch

The Victory Arch, facing the main road and built in 217, in honor the Roman emperor Caracalla, formerly had a bronze chariot atop its ancient stones. It was restored in 1962.
The capital was built facing the basilica.
The mosaics at Volubilis are what makes this site so spectacular.
The best time of day to visit these monuments is at sunset, when the shadows on the monuments grow longer... and when all tourists have left !
After your visit to Volubilis, make a stop at Moulay Idriss, a city of pelgrimage
