Goodbye Marie-Claude & Cedric!

Marie-Claude and Cedric decided to relocate from Belgium to Canada, at least for a while.
Marie-Claude and Cedric got married in July.
To say goodbye on a little meeting she invited some of the friends she had met before.
We will miss this little lady but I am sure she will be showing up on VT regularly :)
Thanks for the nice organisation!

In the morning I met up with Melissa_bel and Goldenboy Paul who brought two nice Japanse students, Tomo and Tai with him.
After a visit to the army museum we went to central station to welcome Marie_claude and Cedric.
Then we went for a drink the the Delirium Tremens and introduced some
real Belgian beers to our Japanese guests.
After a drink we went to this very nice Indonesian restaurant at Place Saint-Catherine. Amina (austen1973) joined us there for a lovely dinner.

It was really a succesful meeting !

29 January it is Brussels again!

On 29th of January I organised for a small group of colleagues a trip to Brussels. In the morning we walked around the parc Cinquantenaire, then we went into the museum for a guided exhibition on Tattu tatoo!.
Afterwards we went to get some fries on Place Jourdan and a drink at the Pub Bernard.
When we were all satisfied we went for a great walk around the Parc Leopold and the European Union area. It was all so quiet now on a Saturday, hardly a living soul around.
We made our way to the nearby metro and headed towards our next appointment : Brewery Cantillon, not far from Midi Station.
There we met VT member Gregg (Gkitzmil and his lovely wife) and some of my other colleagues.
The guided tour was interested and we could taste 4 of their beers and ofcourse we bought also some beers in their shop.
If you want to visit Cantillon... don't wait too long! New bureaucratic decisions of a desk potatoe might bring the kind of these microbreweries in danger. Well might... they actually do and it is well possible that Cantillon will have to close its doors because of this!!
A REAL SHAME ON YOU EU!.

After the tour and tasting we went towards the Vosseplein to the restaurant De Skieven Architect and had some local meal: stoemppatat or hutsepot and a few local beers: a Skieven architect (white beer) and a Poelaert (brown beer)
read some of my Brussels tips if you want to know more what those names mean :)

During the walk I saw two policemen on horses. I was searching for a nice spot to take their picture and went further in the street waiting for them to pass by.
But how comical in front of my nose they turned in the sidestreet so all my colleagues standing there on that corner bursted out in big loud laughter which attracted the attention of the policemen.
Then they noticed me further in the street. My colleague could hear one saying to the other "For a picture we do anything" and laughing as well, they turned their horses again and let themselves be caught on pixels :)
It was such a funny situation :)

More picture of this day out you can see at my fotki pages! Enjoy!!!

Ice ice baby and exams the next day!!!

The 1st of January we met up with Tom & Gonnie (Tompt again) and visited the ice sculptures in Antwerp. My goodness it was cold!!! :)
We warmed up by a smile in one of the 8 Irish pubs we have in Antwerp and did some strolling around.

Pictures about the Antwerp day are on the Fotki albums!

2nd of January we had Brussels scheduled!
oh my goodness Exames!!! and who succeeded `-)
After the exams I went for a rest at the metropolitan hotel and afterwards we went for a very "cheap" beer.
We had great fun again!!!!
I always enjoy Tom and Gonnie's company so very much! They are garantee for giving you a great time!

Want to have a look at the pictures? Feel free to visit the fotki album about this meeting day.

Meeting Cadzand on 29th December

On 29th of December I finally realised a promise I made my colleague Beni: I would take him to Brussels.
We met up with Gini (Cadzand) for a couple of hours. We had a nice drink on one of the most beautiful places I have had a drink ever : De Ultieme Hallucinatie (Ultimate Hallicunation) and went for a walk in the Botanique.

You will find more info of the Ultieme Hallicunatie at my restaurant tips or must see tips, as this is more then a resto or pub, this is an architectural orgasm :)

Feel free to visit the photo album at Fotki!

7th December 2004

On the 7th December I met up Paige again (we met previously in Antwerp) on a VT meeting in Brussels arranged by Marie-Claude.
She was accompanied by her friend Cedric.
Brussels looked nice in Christmas time! We visited the city museum (interesting to know some history and background) and the city hall (quite a rip-off, despite the beautiful halls). We didn't missed to go to the Christmas markets and went into the big wheel (marvelous view).
Ofcourse some drinks were not missing and we met up with Sean65 when we went for a pizza.
Ofcourse no meeting would have been complete without my good friend Els Mahieu.
We had the company of Friday, or short FR that day, a Nigerian staying in Brussels since five months.
At 10:32 I had already hurry back for the last train to go! But we had a long well filled day so by the time I was on the train my eyes got heavey :)
Another succesful meeting !
And of course for those who want to have a look at the pictures, there is still the Fotki album!

You also will conclude that you have to chose very careful who is sitting next to who `-)

Meeting Hussein

Maybe a bit hectic concerned the planning, but still I think a succeeded meeting was the one with Els (Mahieu) and Hussein (hashis) in Brussels.
Pity it was a rather short one but we enjoyed, Els and me and I hope Hussein did as well.

I borrowed Else's digipicture as I didn't had the camera with me (only the reflext so my pics wont be ready soon)

Thank you already Els for the great pic!

1st of August 2004

I heard the previous year of a special event along the water in Brussels. It was called Bruxelles les Bains and it was meant to give the people who can't afford going on holiday or to travel to the sea a kind of substitute here in Brussels.

Reason enough to call up Norali and head for a mini meeting with the of us :))

Want to know where we have been and what we have seen that day?
Ok do visit my Fotki album then :)

And as always, feel free to add comments on the pictures there, or...
have fun reading the comments that are already there!

26 June 2004 visit to the Flemish Parliament

On the 26th of June I went with my colleagues for a whole day to Brussels. We started of at the Flemish Parliament.
Very interesting and you can read some tips about it in my Brussels's page above.

26 June 2004: visit to the Marollen

After a lunch in the pita street we had an appointment with a guide from Bruksel binnenste buiten. That is an organisation who gives guiding tours in certain area's and is especially meant for people with more deeper interests in neighborhoods, or people who know Brussels already and want to visit it "differently".

Pictures of this afternoon walk are in my Fotki album; tips about this walk are in my Off the beaten Path tips.

29 December 2003

^cgBig VT meeting in Brussels 30 nov 2003

Yessss!!! We were in for some more fun! As the second part fo the Panam Antwerp/Brussels meeting it was no in our capital city Brussels we would meet up old and new VT friends!

A small synopsis if our gathering.............

checking the right frequency!

You might think that these are just coincidential the same earrings... but wrong!
they are in fact a new designed radio system to keep in touch with each other in a rather elegant way.
Here we see Barbara and Norali putting their transmittors and receiver at the same frequency.
You have to be careful not to disturb the calls from the police rushing by to an intervention `-)

Will meet must Ttavel!

Ready to cross the street!

and invate the little local market in search for food and drinks !!! mmmmmmmmmmmmMMM! :-)

10th November: Ralphie hits Belgium!

I don't know if many will really know my friend Ralph (Ralph_II) but he really is a sweet character.
He came to Belgium and stayed with me a couple of days. We criss/crossed several places and met different VT-friends :)
One day we made it a Brussels day!
It started to find the right balance for the rest of the day (LOL that is a hint to the picture and the commercial at the back ground!)

It started rather quiet :)
here we are making our first trip by metro.
You can see Ralph; Tom & Gonnie (Tompt) and Norali.
