Sailing around Bergen

by daarth - last update: Dec 3, 2002

You don't always have to ski in Norway just becous

I am planning a trip in July. A trip I expect to be wet. I plan (with a friend) to circumnavigate Scotland by sailboat. This can be done by using the Caledonian channel. We will cross the North Sea on the way out, through the channel, the Hebrides, Orkney, and Shetland and back to Bergen. We do plan to go ashore a few places, but I fear that will be no less wet as we circumnavigate the Scottish distilleries...
I would like to hear from anybody that has info of interest :-)

My sailboat :-))))

Winter sailing February 23rd 2002

We had sunshine and snow, wind still and full storm. Interesting sail trip...
The storm came suddenly without warning. In seconds the sea was cooking and boiling with white froth. Luckily both of us reacted instantly and independently and saved the boat and sails. Winter sailing can sure be full of surprises, and we are both happily one experience wiser. My sailing partner (picture) has never seen anything like it in a whole life with boats. We are at least now sure we will be OK on our big adventure this summer when the two of us set sail for Scotland.

Picture was taken about 15 minutes before the storm hit us.
Most of the winter has been calm and mild so far....
nice little lady :-)
Many interesting places to sail
June 2nd 2002
At this point there is only 176 nautical miles left to the Shetland Islands. To bad we had to turn. Will be there in July though :-)
On board you have to cook fast and hope the food stays in the pot! LOL

Love your Grieg page--I'm a HUGE Grieg fan, so this was great to see.

Thanks for the wishes. I am enjoying an irish whiskey, Redbreast. I know I am a traitor to single malt but this is good, dang good!
