| | Stone Fountain. Due to the intensive mining activity, Kutná Hora for many years grappled with the problem of drinking water supplies. Water was brought to the town from its surroundings by a system of wooden piping several kilometers long. The piping issued into tanks from where the water was drawn. In 1493-95, Matyas Rejsek (one of the builders of St. Barbara's), or someone from his workshop, built a twelvesided stone structure, richly decorated with tracery and pinnacles, atop one of the tanks. The stone fountain, very tastefully placed in the square, is a fine example of Late Gothic architecture as well as a unique engineering relic. |

Susan, also! | Lamanai Mon Jul 18, 2005 14:32 UTC I feel a bit ashamed while reading through your Czech Republic travel pages. Maybe I also should try to work harder to make more tips :-) But it's great to see my country from another home person's point of view. |
