Flee Market Finds!

by AdHocTravel - last update: Sep 3, 2002

Okay, here's the deal

One of the many options available in the city on the weekend is to hit the flee markets. They are every where (just like street fairs seem to be). In our area we venture up to 28th Street and 6th Avenue.

There are two markets. One is the "free" market (as in no entrance cost) and the other one charges a buck to get in (not included in $20 cap). So we hit the free one first and then crossed the street to try our luck at the pay to get in version.

Jeannine has her own set of rules associated with going to the flee market. We each get $20 to spend anyway we want. No more and bargaining is expected!

Checking out the Goods

Here's Jeannine checking out possible buys. This table set up is typical of the rest of the market.

Jeannine's Find #1

Okay so purchase number one was a little asian vase. Asking price- $10, price paid- $5. Money remaining- $15

Jeannine's find #2

Here is her second treasure:

Candle stick, asking price- $5, amount paid- $4

So what about Marc?!

Well let's just say I wasn't as good @ this as Jeannine. This was my first real trip to the flee markets so know I have a better sense of what I should be looking for and what my $20 will buy me.

This time we stopped in at Barnes & Noble on the walk back to the apartment and I picked up a copy of the latest Wired Magazine. Price- $4.95

The Blind Tiger has reopened!! It's new digs at 281 Bleeker (@ Jones St) are absolutely gorgeous. An expanded kitchen is turning delicious pressed sandwiches and great coffee. Currently sans liquor license but go eat. Hopefully the beer will be back.
