Shopping on Sunday in SoHo

by AdHocTravel - last update: Jun 12, 2001

A great place to spend the day (and a buch of your

Jeannine and I spent Sunday afternoon shopping and walking through SoHo. Here are just a couple of the stops we made

-01/16/01

Ad Hoc @ Ad Hoc!

I just had to stop at this store just because of the name. I'd describe the contents as upscale chachka. Stuff that looks cool and you think you'll want on your desk or table and then often take down a month later.

You never know what you're gonna see

SoHo has developed a reputation for uperscale shopping and dining and I think to some locals has lost its edge. This may be true but you're still likely to see any number of unusal street vendors there (and most anywhere in the city). Take this group for instance!

Jeans that fit!

File this one under more than you wanted to know-

Women are not the only ones that have a hard time finding jeans that fit. I've tried and discarded many a pair.

Well stop the presses- Lucky Brand works for me. Here I am outside the store having just scored a pair that I know wear all the time (note they're in the bag not on me, those are GAP jeans that are okay but now are relgated to "gruby" clothes).

All the dishes you need an a bunch you don't but s

Fishs Eddy is a great for picking up a whole setting or just the odd coffee cup. They have lots of whimsical styles and decent (esp. for NYC) prices. Here's a shot of the interior.
Here's the mug I bought. It has become my favorite and it's the one I use at work.

When you've had enough, it's time for a cold one

Bar 89 is one of many swanky bars in the area. Jeannine and I like it because they pour good drinks and have a wide selection. The prices are not great but the atmosphere works nicely.

On the quirky side, the bathrooms have a rather unusual way of providing privacy. When you enter one and latch the door, the previously open glass door fogs up!

Apologies to the bar, I swiped this logo off their site.

The Blind Tiger has reopened!! It's new digs at 281 Bleeker (@ Jones St) are absolutely gorgeous. An expanded kitchen is turning delicious pressed sandwiches and great coffee. Currently sans liquor license but go eat. Hopefully the beer will be back.
