A day trip to Brooklyn

by AdHocTravel - last update: Aug 30, 2002

It all starts with the subway!

Our residence in NYC is in the village so when we decided to spend an afternoon in Brooklyn Heights we started off by catching the "2" at the 14th station and taking the short ride to the Clark Street station in Brooklyn Heights

A walk along the promenade

Brooklyn Heights is a lovely neighborhood. When you walk along the promenade you have an incredible view of the city.

We took a nice stroll until we reached the River Cafe where we had a drink.

Have a drink

The River Cafe is literally right under the Brooklyn Bridge. They have an extensive menu but we simply had a drink at the bar. A nice place to spend some time and watch the boats cruise up and down the river.

Not the least expensive drink I've ever had but a nice view.

Head back across the bridge

After we finished our drink we set out to return to the city. You can quickly pick up the walking entrance to the bridge so we climbed up the steps and headed over.

An amazing structure

The Brooklyn Bridge really is impressive when you are on it. Particularly given its age. When you look up it looks so solid.

This is what everyone does

We stopped a couple of times on the way back to snap a picture. As it turns out, so does everybody else!

Back to the Village

When we made it to the other side, which took only about 15 or so minutes if you don't count the picture stops, we headed back up to our apartment.

We wound past city hall and the court houses and cut through China Town on our way back up.

The Blind Tiger has reopened!! It's new digs at 281 Bleeker (@ Jones St) are absolutely gorgeous. An expanded kitchen is turning delicious pressed sandwiches and great coffee. Currently sans liquor license but go eat. Hopefully the beer will be back.
