  • Restaurant Name: The Blue Beach Restaurant

The Blue Beach is one of fifteen private concessions along the the Promenade des Anglais and has its own restaurant and snack bar.

Many visitors will come here just for lunch; you don't have to have booked sun-beds to be able to have a meal here. In fact, (you will need to check this) I think in some cases you can have a free sun-bed for the afternoon IF you have had a formal lunch in the restuarant.

The menu for the restaurant, bar and snack bar (an informal, less expensive cafe-type area for baguettes etc) is displayed at the top of the steps leading down to the Blue Beach so you can suss things out first without obligation.

This is true of all the beach restaurants along the Promenade des Anglais, obviously they need to attract and tempt people in. The staff at the Blue Beach are particularly friendly and welcoming.

The restaurant area has wooden decking and the tables are shaded by the Blue Beach signature parasols. The tables are laid nicely with white linen and fresh flowers.

Overhead sprays gently mist you with water, very welcome in the summer.

It is very nice to enjoy your meal within the sight and sound of the Mediterranean. Although I have seen (confident) people wearing just bikinis or trunks here, most diners have 'dressed up' a bit, at least wrap a sarong around you and stick your sandals back on is my advice and in my humble opinion, men should stick a shirt on.

For more information about the Blue Beach and its Restaurant, please have a look at my external pages. The link is here. You can check out the food and wine menu for the Blue Beach Restaurant from this link.

Favorite Dish: If you like fish you will do well here. The menu is mostly fish and salad-based. Entrees or starters are mostly salads, melon and parma ham, a couple of fish dishes and a special panier (basket) of raw vegetables with anchovy dip. Don't be misled by the term - entrees, these babies are main meals. I had the starter Salad Nicois - more than enough for a main course and the husand had the Chicken Tandoori salad, both from the entrees menu. Prices are about 11 euros. You can always fill up on the bread basket or order a plate of chips (frites) for an extra 4 euros if you're still hungry.

There is always a daily special of about four choices, usually fish, but I find this reassuring; many restaurants in Nice have the same menu year in, year out, so it is very nice to find a chef making an effort to do something new with the fresh produce.

Main courses again are mostly fish, usually grilled or oven-baked, prices from about 14 euros up to about 50 euros for the lobster (Homard) The lobsters are kept in a tank so you can choose your own victim.

If you fancy a steak, then there is a limited choice from about 14 to 21 euros. Don't forget, steak 'tartare' means RAW meat, usually with a raw egg cracked over the top for good measure.

A few lighter meals, pasta, omelette etc are offered at lunchtimes only, prices from about 5 euros.

The usual array of (what I consider to be) over-priced pudddings.

There is also a children's menu, not particulary good value, but sometimes only ham (or nuggets or burger) and chips will hit the spot. It includes an ice-cream pudding, 10 euros.

The bottles of wine here start at 9 euros for the house red or rose. This is quite good value compared to other beach restaurant prices.

Coffee is 2 euros, about standard price, but great coffee. My last tip: ask for a 'cafe Americain' - espresso toppped up with hot water, makes it last a bit longer.
