It's very likely that you will see these enormous black vulture-like birds hovering around the lunch spots or campsites. White necked Raven (Kunguru to the locals) are everywhere on this mountain!
They feed on food scraps and garbage left behind by (environmentally unconscious) hikers on and off Kili's various trails.
It's a pity they dont eat eggshells - All picnic tables on Marangu are littered with eggshells (and of course, graffiti!).
An interesting tidbit of info if you are interested - A few years ago Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA or JRO) was mockingly called Kunguru International Airport by the locals because of the large number of birds circling the runway ; more birds landed on the runway than airplanes, hence the name!
