The Fairmont, part of the Canadian chain of the same name, is a stunner: this 35-story tower was inspired by the wind-towers of the Gulf and at night is positively glittering with spotlights that change color over time thereby lending the building a certain flavor of Las Vegas or Disney World. Inside it's all glass, marble, wood, fountains, and brushed stainless steel.
There are 11 restaurants, a state-of-the-art business center, world-class spa, and two mosaiked pools. Service was impeccable.
Unique Qualities: The most amazing thing about the place was free Internet access in your room via a webtv-like computer system connected to a 25" TV. With an ASDL line, it was lightening fast.
Note: Check the Internet for a "deal." During certain times of the year rates can be as low as $100 for a double, which was the rate we got via a travel agent here in Muscat. We could have reserved it via www.asiatravel.com for just a trifle more. Watch out for the Dubai Shopping Festival, however, because the rates soar at that time.
