For those who can afford it, I recommend staying at (or at least having lunch at)the historic Hotel Del Cornado on Cornado Island. The island is connected to the main land by a large bridge near the down town area and is convenient to the air port.

Unique Qualities: This landmark historic wooden hotel is located on the beach and has great ammenities. However, what I liked best is its old almost quaint charm of the type of beach front hotel that has hosted presidents and movie stars. It would be a perfect place for a memorable honey moon.
