I got to know that the original mansion of the Berkeley Plantation, built in 1726, was the first with a pediment roof. A pediment is a triangular part at the top of the front of a building which supports the roof. Later on pediments of country houses were often decorated.

Tall chimneys and small, limited in number dormer windows are typical for Georgian country houses I saw in the USA. The bricks for the house were fired at place in 1726.
