I can't believe nobody has included this beautiful building yet. This is an old Manor house located on a hillside, overlooking the bay on the southern edge of Bergen. Built in 1780 it has been used as a residence until very recently when it was given up as a historical attraction.

The house has more or less a perfectly preserved interior and, unlike the houses you may visit at Gamle Bergen, you get the family history of the original owners. A very knowledgable expert gives you a guided tour of the house in English/Norwegian.

There is also plenty of beauty in the grounds of the house as well. Even though the grounds are not extensive they are attractive. Here you will be able to sit and walk in gardens that are maintained in the traditional style that the original owners intended. They include a fish and duck pond.

For good measure there is also a little self-service cafe where you can have a drink and an ice cream or even a cold waffle with jam and cream!

When to go: Open late May-Late August (summer), 11am-4/5pm?, guided tours every hour.

Address: Laksevag, 3km west of Bergen centre, road #582
Directions: Take the buses 70/71 going towards Gravdal/Nipedalen. These things change so check before hand. Ask the driver when to get off or look out the left window for a sign.
