  Trajans Kiosk, Philae
by Myndo

The Philae Temple is located on an island on the Nile (today in the Nasser lake). Actually it would have to change its name, because the island Philae is today under water and the temple was broken down and rebuilt on another island.
Quite close to it, you can still see where it stood, respectively all you see are rests of the dam they had to make, because the water rised too fast.

Philae was the main cultural place for the goddess Isis (wife of Osiris, mother of Horus) and it was so much loved place to go, that until far into christian times it was a pagan bastion.
Today experts speculate that the Maria cult was "invented" to attract the followers of Isis to christianity.

The most known building on the island is the Trajans Kiosk (see picture).
It makes a great view when approaching the island in one of these small boats.

The Kiosk was built in the late Ptolomeic times and combines egypt and roman stile.
