They say that this is the best way to see Alaska. Hmm...well, it might be. I think no matter how you do it, by plain, train or cruise ship, it is the best way when you see what you wanna see. Alaska Railroad is a good way to see the nature, I agree. It has not that many access compared to ships or plains, but the way you'll see is an unique. A lot better than cars, especially when someone needs to drive the car;)
Alaska Railroad takes you to Seward in south and through the Denali, up to Fairbanks in north. Both trips have a lot to offer, miles of scenic views, gorgeous nature and stops where you can do some photographing. Alaska Railroad is more than anything a scenic railway, not the fastest way to travel. Like a trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks takes 12 hrs by train, compared to car which is somewhere around 6-7 hours.
Prices are also quite high: from Anchorage to Seward is 60 dollars per adult.
From Anchorage to Fairbanks is 179 dollars.
